Website Design + Development

Women in Data Science (WiDS) started out as a single conference held at Stanford and expanded into a  worldwide organization striving to create a safe space for women in data science to uplift, support, and connect with each other in a uniquely male-dominated field. The originating organization, WiDS Stanford was branching out into a new 501(c)(3) entity, WiDS Worldwide. We were tasked with designing the logo, branding system, and website for this exciting next chapter for Women in Data Science.

The WiDS Stanford site contained a huge archive of all the past content, blog posts, podcasts, videos, and events starting from 2015. All this invaluable content was imported into the new site and dynamically plugged in through php templates to preserve the years of content WiDS has, and continues to create. The site was built on Wordpress using WP All Import, Advanced Custom Fields, and Search & Filter.

The focus was to make a hub for the WiDS community to find events, ways to get involved, and for data scientists from beginners to professionals to easily find all the amazing content WiDS has created.

The homepage was designed to be an easy reference that allows the user to get an overview of everything the site offers and navigate to what they're looking for with ease. The hero slider features upcoming events and announcements, with the mission statement immediately below for anyone who comes on the site to get an understanding of what the organization does. Every section of the site is listed below as well as feature blocks of any new content including podcasts and videos, with curated topic quick links for anyone who is looking to learn more about data science.

The "All Events" section, a page featuring all upcoming events with filters for region, event type, and attendance type. Each event listing takes the user to a single event page with all the information about the event, venue, language, program, speakers, instructors, etc. as well as a sign up link.

"Get Inspired" landing page, where users can search across all mediums for curated categories, content in their language, and search keywords.

Sub pages include podcasts, videos, and blog posts with respective filters for users to use the website as a resource to learn as well as find events.

"Learn" section, featuring the WiDS Datathon, their free Upskill Workshops, and the "NextGen" program which inspires secondary school students to consider careers involving data science.

"Join Us" section, listing the ways to get involved with the organization, including a subpage about the ambassador program and details on how to apply. The ambassador page includes a listing of all the ambassadors for the current year with a search and filter based on their region.

"About WiDS" section, featuring the WiDS Worldwide mission, its origins, and the many programs they offer for data scientists at any level. The about section displays core brand messaging as well as the WiDS team, community, sponsors, and company structure.
